Magnetic North invited me to co-direct We Will Hear The Angels with Nicholas Bone who also wrote and performed in the work. We were resident in the Fruitmarket’s Warehouse space.The beautiful brick walls became a key element in developing the design.

The characters in the play slow reveal stories about their sadness. I took a photograph of each character and created a dense image. The portraits appear in layers slowly as if they are part of the building itself .

I thought about early photography and the role of time in an intimate exchange between a portrait photographer and their subject.
