Edits Film (2013)
Between 2011 - 2014 I made three films that in different ways explored dance worlds. Passing Strange and Wonderful (2012) with Ben Wright and Bgroup and Edits Film (2013) and leftwingmirror (2014) with Lea Anderson and The Featherstonehaughs.
The Featherstonehaughs, an all male dance company led by choreographer Lea Anderson have imagined that Fassbinder's seminal work The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant is a score for choreography, the result is Edits. Edits Film is Director Marisa Zanotti's poetic documentary of the dance and includes costumes by Sandy Powell and appearances by Club Duckie's Jay Cloth.
leftwing mirror was an installation for the left wing mirror of a stationary van. Curated by Straybird at Dance Umbrella 2014.
Here is a link to an article I wrote in 2010 about representations of dance practice on screen focussing on two films that explore worlds of performance and rehearsal, Carlos Saura's Flamenco Carmen (1983)and Chantal Akerman's Un Jour Pina a Demande (1983)
